President Mandelman called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. ROLL CALL AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE On the call of the roll, Supervisors Chan, Chen, Dorsey, Engardio, Fielder, Mahmood, Mandelman, Melgar, Sauter, Sherrill, and Walton were noted present. All Members were present. President Mandelman presented the ancestral homeland acknowledgement of the Ramaytush Ohlone, who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula, pursuant to Board Rule 4.7.1. President Mandelman led the Members of the Board and the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, pursuant to Board Rule 4.9. COMMUNICATIONS Angela Calvillo, Clerk of the Board, welcomed members of the public to attend Board meetings and provide comment in-person or view the meeting live on SFGovTV's award winning Cable Channel 26 or at www.sfgovtv.org. SPECIAL ORDER 2:00 P.M. - Mayor's Appearance Before The Board 250124 [Formal Policy Discussions - February 11, 2025] Pursuant to Charter, Sections 2.103 and 3.100(7), and Administrative Code, Section 2.11, the Mayor shall discuss eligible topics submitted from the Supervisors. The Mayor may address the Board initially for up to five minutes. Discussion shall not exceed two minutes per question or answer. The following topic was noticed on the agenda representing District 7: 1. Short-term operational funding for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). Mayor Daniel Lurie addressed the Board of Supervisors regarding this week's events happening around the City for Lunar New Year and the National Basketball Association's All-Star Game. Mayor Lurie further spoke on the launch of the Hospitality Zone Task Force to improve public safety and revitalize commercial districts. Mayor Lurie then discussed the above referenced topic submitted by the District 7 Supervisor. Supervisor Melgar began the discussion by asking the following question: Will you do everything in your power to ensure that we can weather the next couple of years with no service cuts to MUNI while we work on long-term funding solutions? Mayor Lurie responded he would do everything in his power to support MUNI's immediate and long-term health since it plays a vital role in the City's economic recovery. Supervisor Melgar then followed up with the following question: What ideas do you have for funding sources or sources of income? Mayor Lurie responded he is lobbying for additional state funding, but local and regional measures may be needed to support MUNI's budget. Mayor Lurie did not ask any follow-up questions related to this topic. Following public comment this matter was filed. No further action was taken.
