211031 [Administrative Code - Request for Sheriff’s Services]
            Sponsors: Safai; Peskin, Mar and Mandelman
            Ordinance amending the Administrative Code to authorize the Sheriff to contract with private
            individuals and private entities to provide supplemental law enforcement services.
            Privilege of the floor was granted unanimously to Sheriff Paul Miyamoto (Sheriff’s Department) and
            Anne Pearson (Office of the City Attorney) who responded to questions raised throughout the
            discussion.
            Supervisor Safai, seconded by Supervisor Mandelman, moved that this Ordinance be AMENDED, AN
            AMENDMENT OF THE WHOLE BEARING NEW TITLE, on Page 1, Line 5, by adding ‘to retail and
            commercial establishments’; on Page 2, Line 3, by adding ‘”Commercial” establishment means an
            establishment whose purpose is financial gain’, Lines 10-11, by adding ‘”Retail” establishment
            means an establishment for the sale of goods, typically in small quantities, or services directly to the
            ultimate consumer or end user’, Line 13, by adding ‘special’, and Lines 24-25, by adding ‘(b) The
            Sheriff may provide supplemental law enforcement services under this Chapter 10A only to Retail and
