Without objection, President Walton raised a point of personal privilege to acknowledge today as the official day that the City is lifting most local restrictions that were related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused immediate and unprecedented changes to our daily lives. He thanked the Mayor, Members of the Board, and City departments for stepping up and executing the City’s response to the health emergency. San Francisco has become the first major city to reach over 80% of eligible residents vaccinated with at least one dose. As communities reopen, the Board must do it safely in order to continue the important business of the people. The President then acknowledged the District 3 Supervisor’s courageous decision to seek help and hoped the public continued to support him on his path to recovery. Members of the Board must rely on the true commitment of humanity in each of us and not leave anyone behind. The Board has an obligation to exercise their Charter powers of hearing and inquiry to hold the City accountable to the residents on every level. There will be disagreements in this work, but the Board will continue to conduct the business of the people without threats or fear of threats. The Board will continue to conduct efficient meetings in an orderly fashion and not allow department leaders, nonprofit leaders or staff to mistreat our colleagues or aides. The legislative and administrative branches must be held to a higher standard and not tolerate bullying or disrespect. San Francisco is our home and the way we rebuild together will be a model for others. President Walton then provided privilege to Supervisor Peskin to address the Board. Supervisor Peskin thanked the Members of the Board and the people of San Francisco for their understanding as he deals with personal issues and reaffirmed his dedication to District 3 and the City and County of San Francisco. Breed addressed the Board of Supervisors regarding the reopening of the City and thanked the people of San Francisco for everything they have done to protect public health and save lives. Today the State of California lifted many restrictions that have been in place and she acknowledged the dedication and efforts of the City workers and Disaster Service Workers who have been integral to the progress made. Mayor Breed further spoke on the respect that must be shown to the City staff who attend Board meetings to report on their work and reiterated the need to hold ourselves to a higher standard.
