The Mayor may address the Board initially for up to five minutes. Discussion shall not exceed two minutes per question or answer. 1. Drug Use and Overdose Treatment (District 6) Mayor London N. Breed addressed the Board of Supervisors regarding the decline of new HIV infections for the first time in the City’s history, how the current public health crises is mental illness and substance abuse, and the plans to expand the hours and services of centers and programs to assist with these health crises. Mayor Breed then discussed the referenced topic submitted by the District 6 Supervisor. Supervisor Haney began the discussions by asking the following question: What commitments and plans can you share with us on how your administration is proactively addressing the crises of drug use/overdose deaths and street drug dealing, and what more can we do as a Board to support these initiatives? Mayor Breed indicated that the death rate has tripled since 2008, an additional $6,000,000 has been added to the budget to address these issues, a Task Force is being formed to report on treatment and service options, safe injection sites should be focused on, and indicated she will continue to address the issue and focus on providing services to rectify the situation. Supervisor Haney then followed up with the following question: Have you explored the option to expand detox centers throughout the City? Mayor Breed indicated she continues to have conversations on the expansion of locations for detox centers and the services they provide, including the provision of housing for those who have utilized detox services. Mayor Breed did not ask any follow-up questions related to this topic. Following public comment this matter was filed. No further action was taken.
