The following topic was noticed on the agenda representing District 9: 1. Strategies and metrics of success at the Mission Street BART Plazas. Mayor Daniel Lurie addressed the Board of Supervisors regarding the reduction of crime, homeless encampments, and overdoses; the increase of public transit riders, issuance of permits, and business investments; the strengthening of the City’s safety net and the successful collaboration on the budget; organized community events that have served certain neighborhoods; and his continued desire to partner with the Members of the Board to ensure a safer and cleaner City where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. President Mandelman then invited Supervisor Fielder to ask her question related to the noticed topic. Supervisor Fielder began the discussions by asking the following question: What strategies and metrics or benchmarks does your office use to measure the success of the new Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development-led 90-day effort on Mission Street, and according to these metrics, are your administration’s interventions making a meaningful difference? Mayor Lurie responded that the conditions on Mission Street have been suffering far too long and restoring these spaces would require sustainable, coordinated efforts to improve conditions and lay the groundwork for a lasting change, including improving safety, stopping fencing, and ending open-air drug dealing by increasing the public safety presence and reducing service gaps to ensure coverage throughout the day. Supervisor Fielder then followed up with the following question: What metrics and benchmarks does your office use to measure success? Mayor Lurie responded they are doing more proactive policing, increased routine patrol checks, seen a reduction in mental health and homeless calls, increased enforcement against fencing, deployed ambassadors, created stronger coordination across departments, have dedicated outreach teams to address mental health needs.
