The City and County of San Francisco acquired approximately 4 acres of land known as the Francisco Reservoir in 1930 from Spring Valley Water Company, which land is bordered by Hyde, Larkin and Bay Street and homes on Chestnut Street. The property under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission was transferred to its predecessor, the San Francisco Water Department for use as a reservoir without any payment to the City.
