The Mission's homicide rate increased in 2007 over 2006, and in the first 2 weeks of 2008, there have been multiple murders and many more people have been hospitalized with gunshot and stab wounds. I want confirmation from the administration that significantly increased resources will be brought to bear in the Mission to combat the violence that is taking the lives of our young men and women, and generally wreaking havoc in our community. The current wave of violence is more that demonstrative of the need. I want to know what the status of installing shot-spotter technology in the Mission is, and I want a date certain timeline for the deployment and utilization of this technology. Additionally, I want to know how the administration will increase resources for violence prevention in what seems to be a lean budget year. Given that violence has been and is still on the rise in the Mission, what has the City's law enforcement community identified as the shortcomings of our current violence/crime prevention model, and to what degree is the City looking to our municipalities who have had greater success? When can the Supervisors of the City's districts most effected by violence have a full accounting of what in our current approach is broken, and how the City will go about fixing it?
