Presentations Made Supervisor Peskin introduced, welcomed and presented Certificates of Honor to the following persons: Giovanni Giotta, owner, Caffe Trieste, for his involvement with the community and for his promotion of fine cultural arts to the Bay Area. Iolanda Giotta Bodi, sister, Caffe Trieste, for her many years of dedicated service to the community of North Beach. Supervisor Peskin introduced Christine Jensen, who presented a reading. On behalf of the entire Board, Supervisor Leno introduced and welcomed Carol Channing and presented her with a Certificate of Honor proclaiming today, February 25, 2002, as Carol Channing Day in San Francisco. CONSENT AGENDA Recommendations of the Neighborhood Services and Recreation Committee 020050 [Grant for Public Library’s Access News Program] Resolution authorizing the Department of Public Library to accept and expend a grant in the amount of $17,204 from the California State Library as part of the Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) for continuation of the Access News Program for the blind and sight impaired patrons. Supervisor Peskin moved to amend page 2, starting with line 3, by deleting "Further Resolved, That in the absence of the primary advocate and designer of the project, Kimiko Burton, Public Defender, as the project supervisor and implementer, unexpended grant funds may be retained by Commonweal and/or returned to donors; and, be it". Supervisor Peskin, seconded by Supervisor Gonzalez, moved that this Resolution be AMENDED. The Board considers ordinances and resolutions, most of which have been the subject of hearings before the standing committees of the board at which members of the public are urged to testify. The full Board does not hold a second public hearing on measures which have been heard in committee. Board procedures do not permit: 1) persons in the audience to vocally express support or opposition to statements by Supervisors or by other persons testifying; 2) ringing and use of cell phones, pagers and similar sound-producing electronic devices, (Violators may be removed from the meeting room.) 3) signs to be brought into the meeting or displayed in the room; and 4)standing in the Legislative Chamber.
