Question: Shall this Ordinance be PASSED ON FIRST READING? 13. 001555 [Neighborhood Taxi Service] Supervisor Newsom Resolution urging the Taxi Commission to take all steps within its power with all due haste to improve service to outlying areas of the City, including issuing at least 400 additional taxis; considering neighborhood-only, wheelchair-accessible, compressed natural gas, and other restrictions; creating a workable plan for centralized dispatch; siting neighborhood taxi stands, establishing an easily remembered phone number as a complaint or compliment phone line, and increasing the number of hours of training required for taxi drivers as follows: at least two additional hours in City geography, at least one additional hour in crime prevention, and at least doubling the hours of vehicle and pedestrian safety training required. (24) ADJOURNMENT Meeting Procedures The Board of Supervisors is the Legislative Body of the City and County of San Francisco. The Board considers ordinances and resolutions, most of which have been the subject of hearings before the standing committees of the board at which members of the public are urged to testify. The full Board does not hold a second public hearing on measures which have been heard in committee. Board procedures do not permit persons in the audience to vocally express support or opposition to statements by Supervisors or by other persons testifying. Thus applause and booing are both contrary to Board requirements. The Board does not permit signs to be brought into the meeting or displayed in the room.
