SPECIAL ORDER 2:00 P.M. - Mayor's Appearance Before The Board 240511 [Formal Policy Discussions - May 21, 2024] Pursuant to Charter, Sections 2.103 and 3.100(7), and Administrative Code, Section 2.11, the Mayor shall discuss eligible topics submitted from the Supervisors. The Mayor may address the Board initially for up to five minutes. Discussion shall not exceed two minutes per question or answer. The following topic was noticed on the agenda representing District 11: 1. Budget Cuts to Essential Programs Mayor London N. Breed addressed the Board of Supervisors regarding the Caltrain project and high-speed rail being brought to San Francisco, funding needed for the transit center, and the goal of making San Francisco the best it can be. Mayor Breed then discussed the above referenced topic submitted by the District 11 Supervisor. Supervisor Safai began the discussion by asking the following question: Will you commit to working with my office to identify a new sober housing site in the next 60 days? Mayor Breed provided an overview of the completed work and stated her commitment to continuing to collaborate with department staff who do the heavy lifting on administering these programs. Supervisor Safai then followed up with the following question: Is that a commitment to collaborate? Mayor Breed reiterated she is committed to doing the work and expressed concerns over the Supervisor’s interest in this matter. Mayor Breed then followed up with the following question to Supervisor Safai: What role are you looking to play in this operation and what does this have to do with your responsibilities as a District 11 Supervisor? Supervisor Safai responded that he represents the City as a whole and has been working with the Adult Probation Department and non-profit organizations on these matters.
